About the Award

This is a bi-annual award which will launch again in 2016. 

"The WMS Global Awards for Excellence, launched by the World Media Summit, is the first comprehensive news awards covering multiple media formats, including press, photo, video and integrated media. The awards, designed to become an authoritative, credible and globally influential news showcase, are open to news agencies, newspapers, TV stations and news websites around the world.

The WMS Global Awards for Excellence honors “TRUTH, OBJECTIVITY, EXCELLENCE” in journalism. The awards encourage all people working in the media sector to keep honing their professional skills and pursue excellence, while inspiring media setups to work with the times in the spirit of innovation.
The awards include three categories: New Media Reporting Awards , Media Innovation Awards and Awards for Exemplary News Teams and News Professionals in Developing Countries.
The WMS Secretariat will invite veteran and senior news practitioners from the Secretariat members and other world renowned media organizations, as well as experts and scholars from professional academic institutions, to act as judges. They are to proceed with their work in line with prevailing international norms and with the principle of ""equality and justice."""

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible entrants refer to professional media practitioners working in authentic news agencies, newspapers, TV stations and Internet network institutions from all countries and regions. User-generated websites and social media such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Wechat, micro-blogs and Wikis are not included.

Entry Fee Details

Required Material

"Sign-in and entry submission is online. Entrants should log on to the WMS official website to register, create a personal ID and complete entry forms before submission. Entrants will be guided through the process. Incomplete information will disqualify the submission. The following is required for entry submission:
-- Entry information
Include title of entry, names of entrants (if the number of the entrants exceeds ten, select ""staff"" ), air date, terminals and language used.
-- Necessary entry materials
Submit no more than five pieces each entrant. Entries are limited to multimedia products broadcast on multi-terminals (Internet-based devices such as smart phones, tablets, and smart TVs) and should have been accomplished and published between Jan. 1, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2013. For entries published by the webpage, please provide a URL, and make sure judges have free access to the webpage from July to November 2014. For works broadcast by smart terminal app(s), the entry should be submitted as a PDF. If the entry contains video material, please include a video screenshot. Video material should be uploaded as a separate package.
-- Provide a description of the submitted entry. An entrant may provide an explanation in English of up to 800 words to expound on the background of the entry and other related matters.
-- Proof of publication
Works published online should be accompanied by a webpage screenshot. Works published on smart terminal app(s) should be accompanied by a screenshot of the page on which the works appear.
-- Supplementary material
Please include a copy (in PDF/JPG format) of any previous awards. (PDF/JPG file: size between 400k and 1M.)"

Entry Format

"Upload entries in PDF format (size between 400k and 1M). The submitted entry should be faithful to its published one. Each entry should be formatted as a separate PDF. Microsoft Word can create a formatted PDF document containing text and photos. The PDF files should not be the scanned ones.
The PDF file should include:
a. the screenshot of the entry's original publication layout;
b. the necessary entry information, including titles of entries (as originally published), columns and layout, names of reporters, publication date and language, and the names of media platforms on which the entry was published;
c. the English version of the entry if it is published in a language other than English.
If the entry contains video materials, please include a video screenshot. Video materials should be uploaded as a separate package. See the following technical requirements for videos:
* File formats: WMV/ AVI
* Maximum file size: 1 GB. Separated ones should be marked with sequence number
* Channels: dual or stereo channels
* Coding format:
WMV: WMV2 for video coding; WMAV2 for audio coding
AVI: MPEG4 for video coding; MP3 for audio coding
* Videos should use progressive scanning (no interlacing).
e.g. video footage shot at 24fps should be encoded and uploaded at 24fps. Video shot at 30fps should be uploaded at 30fps. Video shot at 720p60, should be uploaded at 720p60. Video shot at 1080i60, should be de-interlaced before uploading at 1080p30
* Resolution
Online players usually display videos in a 16:9 frame. If you are uploading a non-16:9 file, it can also be processed and displayed. However, we recommend the following three resolutions:
480p:854*480, 720:1280*720 and 1080:1920*1080
* Bit rates
To ensure the effect of broadcasting, bit rates are suggested to be no lower than the following:

* Time limit: no longer than 90 minutes
