About the Award

The Story of the Year competition, co-sponsored by the Deadline Club (New York City Chapter, Society of Professional Journalists), recognizes initiative and original reporting of a situation, problem or issue affecting students. Judges look for entries which show leadership, quality writing, sensitivity and fairness. Categories include News story, Feature Story, Editorial/Commentary, Sports Story and Diversity. Introduced in 2010 is the Multimedia Story of the Year, with categories for News, Feature, Sports and Photo Slideshow.
