The Disney ABC Television Group (DATG) is home to all of The Walt Disney Company's worldwide entertainment and news television properties. KABC-TV is an ABC owned television station, located in a state-of-the-art facility in Glendale, near downtown Los Angeles. The station is in the #2 ranked television market in the country. ABC7 has a variety of internship opportunities available to college students pursuing careers in Television Production, Broadcast Journalism, Communications and other related fields. Weekly, ABC7 produces over forty-four hours of local news, public affairs, magazine programs and public service campaigns. The internship program at ABC7 is designed to provide students with an onsite educational experience that complements their academic studies. Interns will have an opportunity to observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market, television station. The objective is to enhance the intern’s understanding of the broadcasting business and to reinforce their desire to further pursue a career in broadcasting.


Basic Qualifications: -All candidates must be eligible to work in the US. -All candidates must be at least 18 years old. -All candidates must be available during the months of September through December for the 12-week program. -All candidates must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class – OR – be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months - OR - be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program in order to qualify for this internship. -Must be available two full days per week at the minimum. Shifts available are Monday through Friday, 3:00 am-9:00 am. -All candidates must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship. -All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session. Preferred Qualifications: -Resume must outline other internships, degrees earned, work experience, related clubs and organizations, current major course of study, expected graduation date and extracurricular activities. -Cover letter must include a personal introduction, and days/times available during internship period. -Preferred Junior or Senior-level standing, or a recent graduate within 6 months of graduation date. -Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. -Basic computer skills and working kNowledge of Windows software. -Major or previous coursework in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related major. Courses taken in producing/writing/editing (Predator) a plus. -Previous internship experience in a professional newsroom.


Responsibilities: The EARLY MORNING NEWS internship provides an overview of the workings of the news department for Eyewitness News, including the production of six-and-a-half hours of daily news. Interns will attend production meetings, assist the assignment desk, answer phones and conduct beat checks, research news topics (including online/social media news research), aid in the planning of news series, view and log tapes, and transcribe interviews. Interns will also observe editors, writers, producers, directors, and technical crews and on occasion travel with reporters and field crews for stories and live remotes.
