The Disney ABC Television Group (DATG) is home to all of The Walt Disney Company's worldwide entertainment and news television properties. The Group includes the ABC Television Network (including ABC Entertainment Group and ABC News divisions); the Disney Channels Worldwide global kids’ TV business and ABC Family; as well as television distribution divisions Disney ABC Domestic Television and Disney ABC ESPN Television. The Disney ABC Television Group also manages the Radio Disney Network, as well the Company’s equity interest in A&E Television Networks. ABC News is responsible for all of the ABC Television Network's news programming on a variety of platforms: television, radio and digital.


Basic Qualifications: •All candidates must be eligible to work in the US •All candidates must be at least 18 years old •All candidates must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class – OR – be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months - OR - be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program in order to qualify for this internship •All candidates must be available from September through early December for the 12-15 week program •All candidates must be willing to work a minimum of 2 full days/week (8 hours/day); full-time 40 hours/week assignments may be available •All candidates must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship •All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session •All candidates must have samples of work on website (preferred) or as part of their application. •All candidates must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Office with emphasis in MS Word and Outlook •Previous experience (academic or internship) in writing news stories for print and/or digital publications under strict deadlines. •Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalistic reporting •Strong proficiency in social media platforms including: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr etc. •Basic kNowledge (academic or previous internship) in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Preferred Qualifications: •Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year •Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher •Demonstrated interest/experience (academic or previous internship) in journalism (print and/or broadcast) •Previous internship experience in a professional newsroom setting •Previous experience as a reporter or editor at a university print or digital publication •Previous experience (academic or internship) in pitching news stories to editorial staff •Previous experience (academic or internship) in writing high volumes of articles for publication including breaking news •Previous experience (academic or internship) in video shooting with handheld camera •Previous experience (academic or internship) using social media as a newsgathering tool •Superior news judgment and ability to find primary sources for stories •Demonstrated ability to balance priorities, multiple projects, and tasks.


Responsibilities: The Lifestyle and Entertainment vertical of ABC News Digital covers everything from who wore what on the red carpet to one-on-one interviews with celebrities to travel, fashion, parenting and more. The section's Digital Reporters are its backbone – finding and executing the story ideas that light up Facebook and Twitter and ABCNews.com, from under-the-radar subjects to personal stories to trending topics, and everything in between. From day one, candidates will generate story ideas, make pitches on a daily basis to the section's editors and should be able to produce well-reported, well-written and well-sourced stories on a quick turnaround. The ideal candidate has an interest in entertainment and lifestyle topics and is well-versed in pop culture. He/she will have the opportunity to work alongside digital journalists at the No. 1 online news network as well as interact with other divisions of ABC News. Upon completion of the internship, the candidate should expect to have a solid portfolio of news stories.
