Description
This fully bilingual (English and Spanish) position, in sports public relations, is for an individual seeking a hands-on experience in sports public relations and communications. Major League Soccer (MLS) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) seek strong candidates to continue to publicize the League and the sport across domestic and international media as well as executing media operations and publicity for major international soccer events. The position is for 6 months starting July 15 through December 18, 2015, based in New York, NY and may require some travel.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Fully bilingual (English and Spanish – reading, writing and speaking)
Ability to prioritize, be proactive, manage multiple projects and ability to work under deadlines
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
KNowledge of soccer is preferable
Student in public relations, journalism, marketing communications or related field track is preferred
Applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate program graduating in December 2015 may also apply, but must receive college credit for the internship.
Eligibility:
Undergraduate Seniors graduating in 2015 or recent graduate within previous 2 years.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Assist with proactive pitching and generating media coverage of MLS and SUM among U.S. Hispanic and international media, including compilation of daily MLS online media coverage as well as coverage of SUM properties, such as the Mexican National Team US Tour and the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Production of press releases, original content and material for MLS and SUM
Translation of press releases and other content
Assist with fielding media requests from US-based and international media outlets, as well as internal requests
Assist with upkeep of MLS and SUM media distribution lists
Research for a variety of departmental projects
Compile and distribute media coverage clip packets for the Board of GoverNors and executive staff
Participate in Communications department meetings and events
Assist with media operations at special events
Assist International Communications Coordinator and Vice President of Communications to support all objectives of the department.
