Description

Monumental Sports & Entertainment owns and operates three professional sports teams: the NBA's Washington Wizards, the NHL's Washington Capitals, and the WNBA's Washington Mystics. Monumental, which merged Lincoln Holdings and Washington Sports & Entertainment on June 10, 2010, also owns and operates Verizon Center, the premier sports and entertainment venue in Washington, D.C. Additionally, the group operates Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the Capitals' state-of-the-art training facility in Arlington, Va., and George Mason University's Eagle Bank Arena, located in Fairfax, Va.

Overview: As an intern with the Wizards Communications Department some of the daily responsibilities may seem mundane, however these tasks are what we rely on to run an organized, informative and successful Communications Department. During game nights, you will be very visible and will interact Not only with Monumental Sports & Entertainment staff, but also to members of the media, the opposing team and our fans.

This is a great opportunity to network and establish contacts for your future endeavors. It is extremely important to maintain a high level of professionalism, as you represent yourself and the organization.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Must be an undergraduate or graduate student receiving course credit for the internship Must be able to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week An ideal candidate possesses: exceptional work ethic, strong desire to succeed, eagerness to learn, professionalism, and a passion for the sports industry Strong time management and organizational skills Proficient with Microsoft Office & Outlook Good communication skills

Responsibilities

Responsibilities: Update daily clip files Assist with assembling game packets for incoming teams Assist with player interviews for out of town media outlets Assist with the writing and editing of the team’s annual media and postseason guides Update and maintain statistics files Write and edit player and staff bios Oversee season credential production Assist with the preparation of game Notes Produce content for website, as needed Deliver game packets to local hotels Assist with press conferences, practices, player interviews as needed Photocopying when necessary Other duties as assigned Game Night Responsibilities: Staff media press gate Staff media dining check-in Set-up press room and interview room Answer phones in press room Complete and distribute starting line-up sheets Bring tickets to Will Call as necessary Copy and distribute stats during the game, at half-time and post-game Produce post-game Notes Gather, type and distribute post-game quotes Clean up/organize press room Other duties as assigned
