Smule is a social music-making mobile app company kNown for some of our massively successful products: Ocarina, Sing! Karaoke, Magic PiaNo, I-AM T-Pain, and AutoRap. We are located in downtown San Francisco and were co-founded by a Stanford music professor and backed by top VC firms in Silicon Valley.

Smule’s user base is growing fast outside North America: more than 300 million people all over the world have used our apps to create music and connect. We are seeking a product marketing intern, via the Collabriv Fellowship program, who can help us better connect with our consumers in the Japanese market.

The intern will join Smule for 6-12 months (starting on August 24th, 2015) through Collabriv, who on top of providing leadership trainings and mentorship, will also assist in visas, traveling, housing, and other activities that facilitate the transition of the intern from home to here, San Francisco.


What Smule is looking for: Creative writing skills: ability to come up with compelling taglines (in Japanese) that motivate target audiences to engage in our message and products A good intuitive sense of human minds and behavior Excellent analytical skills – able to quickly recognize patterns and draw actionable analysis Passion to grow your career in product marketing Strong academic record and background in marketing, psychology, ecoNomics, and business administration highly preferred Familiarity with mobile advertising, mobile apps and passion for music is a plus Requirements: Proficient English communication skills – both verbally and in writing Perks: Free daily dinner after 6pm Free breakfasts and lunches on Mondays and Wednesdays Free VIP access to all of Smule’s products Option to work from home on every Thursday Awesome work equipment (Macbook Air for everyone) Staff events, outings, team building outings


The Marketing Intern’s responsibilities will include: Learn how to distribute mobile apps via major advertising channels (Facebook, Google, etc) under million dollar budget Learn how to identify market trends in music, mobile apps and consumer tastes Drive consumer research and be the expert on target segments (who are they? how do they buy? what are their use cases? what are their preferences?) Draft compelling and creative ways to position Smule’s apps in writing (in Japanese) for Appstore description and advertisement copy (tagline) Learn how to leverage social media and your network Collaborate with Smule’s user acquisition, data, design, and content licensing team to improve local content in our songbook, performance marketing, and business development efforts
