Description

ReThink Media is a unique Nonprofit organization focused on building the media and communications capacity of Nonprofit think tanks, experts, and advocacy groups working toward a more constructive US foreign and national security policy, the protection of human and civil rights, and strengthening our democracy. The communities we serve include the foremost experts, leaders, and organizers in the fields of arms control and Nonproliferation, conflict prevention, human and civil rights, and electoral and judicial reform.

ReThink Media's paid Internship and Fellowship program provides talented undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on experience in the field of issue advocacy communications. We hire students in traditional and digital media and communications, journalism, design and data visualization, website management, media and public opinion research, and Non-profit management.

Requirements

Hours and Compensation ReThink Media Interns and Fellows are expected to work at least 20 hours per week (although less time may be considered in special circumstances). Interns currently in undergraduate programs are paid $10.50 per hour. Fellows currently in graduate or masters programs are paid $12.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

Depending on the background of the intern or fellow and upcoming campaigns and initiatives, activities may include but are Not limited to: Monitoring both traditional and online media coverage and public opinion, and conducting research. Assisting in building and managing rapid response and crisis response media campaigns, including building press lists, researching reporters and outlets, and drafting, pitching and placing content. Assisting organizations in using state of the art collaboration and social media tools to promote traditional and online media campaigns, content and initiatives. Assisting with the design and promotion of data visualizations, graphic memes, and other dynamic content. Assisting in coordinated efforts for posting, promoting and pushing out that content. Assisting with website development and content management. Our site is built in Drupal. Developing, customizing, and utilizing analytics to measure and improve both the work of our collaborative and member groups as well as the promotion of our own content. Researching the latest developments and best practices in digital and social media. If applying as a Non-profit management intern or fellow, assist with overall administrative, operations, and financial management tasks of the organization. Ideal candidates will be undergraduate or graduate students in any of the above areas with a background in and/or proven commitment to one or more of the policy issues represented by the groups and collaborative that Rethink Media works with. At present we are looking to hire candidates in our Berkeley, CA office for our Spring 2015 program. Successful candidates may have the opportunity to extend the length of their position.
