The Grand Rapids Griffins, primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, anNounce an opening for a Public Relations Intern for Home Games. The internship starts in Sept. 2015 and lasts until the conclusion of the 2015-16 season (April-June 2016, depending on playoffs).
This internship is intended to help prepare the individual for employment with a professional sports team. Previous members of the Griffins public relations department have continued on to work for the Baltimore Ravens (NFL), Berlin Thunder (NFL Europe), Carolina Cobras (AFL), Cleveland Browns (NFL), Denver Broncos (NFL), Denver Outlaws (MLL), Detroit Lions (NFL), Detroit Red Wings (NHL), Detroit Vipers (IHL), Florida Panthers (NHL), Grand Rapids Rampage (AFL), Indianapolis Indians (IL), Lake Erie Monsters (AHL), New York Jets (NFL), New York Rangers (NHL), San Antonio Rampage (AHL), University of Florida (SEC), USA Cycling and USA Hockey.

• Recent graduate, senior/junior-year undergraduate student or post-graduate student, majoring in communications, sport management, journalism, public relations or related field • Availability to work 38 home game nights plus playoffs, plus occasional office hours during the week • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Intense desire to progress professionally within the sports PR industry • Creativity, exacting attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage a variety of simultaneous tasks and meet deadlines • Computer proficiency, including Photoshop and web site management • Self-starting, highly motivated individual with exceptional work ethic and unquestioned dependability • Personal, professional demeaNor • Astute kNowledge of and interest in hockey


• Game night responsibilities include but are Not limited to press box setup, distribution of media credentials, reporting starting lineups and scratches to the game operations department and media, distributing stats during intermission, and assisting with post-game interviews and multimedia • Provide additional team coverage for by attending practices to write player feature stories and Q&As • Coordinate the distribution of community program/event materials • Other duties and special projects as assigned
