Requirements

Pay and Time Expectations This internship is Not a paid role, however an intern could earn credits with their respective college/university. There is however income potential through new sponsors/lenders acquired, commercial sales, etc. that will be discussed in detail during the interview. Requirements for interns usually include a 20-hour work week commitment, good academic standing, attendance at weekend and after-hour station events, and a willingness to travel without expecting reimbursements.

Responsibilities

Helps Production The radio intern will be expected to help producers and on-air talent run a smooth show. Duties include setting up the studio for broadcasts with scripts for advertisements and endorsements; supplying the radio hosts with reading and research material; and recording specified segments for future use. In addition, an intern can be expected to maintain the station's website with podcasts, guest interview transcripts, and meet sponsors to pre-record commercials for the show at the station. Answers Phones The intern will screen calls for the show, takes personal information, and makes follow-up and research calls to potential clients and advertisers for the production staff. Gives Creative Input The intern will be expected to brainstorm new ideas, write and execute the material on air. Interns must be outgoing, quick thinkers who can banter with the hosts. The show has set sponsors and lenders the company works with. Maximizing their exposure, and integration with show production is crucial. Promotes Station An intern's promotional duties may involve writing and editing social media to connect with listeners and promote the show. This should be done by heavy tweeting, Facebook posts, blogs, website updates, to keep the show in the forefront of social media and current. It's important to the intern's success to represent the station in a lively, positive manner. Executes Administrative Duties Preparing and distributing mail, communicating with sponsors/lenders and listeners through e-mail, filing membership information and filling out contest-winner forms are duties handled by interns. In addition, an intern might be asked to order food or ensure requested items are on hand, such as a guest's special drink order. Responsibilities also include maintaining recording schedules, commercial line ups, creating station literature and coordinating station giveaways, for example. Event planning contribution will also be expected for quarterly events.
