The Communications team at Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Research and Insights Intern to support the collection and analysis of data about our content and communications, to help us better serve the communities who create Wikipedia and its sister projects.
You will be joining a group of dedicated and passionate people responsible for communicating important news and information for the world’s largest communities. We’re looking for someone who is talented, passionate about our mission, and driven to change the world.

Your primary services and deliverables will be to collect, analyze, and report on key metrics about the content we produce, audiences, the impact of our campaigns.
Requirements
Desired Skills and Experience:
Commitment to the Wikimedia Foundation’s free kNowledge mission
Ability to sift through large quantities of data to tell meaningful stories
Experience in quantitative and qualitative digital media research
Experience in data analysis to derive impactful insights
Familiarity with digital, web and social media analytics packages
Familiarity with survey research methods and considerations
Familiarity with statistical packages and data query languages
The ability to flourish in a highly transparent and collaborative environment and work on a team with diverse demographic and cultural characteristics
Pluses:
Involvement or experience within Wikimedia communities
Other languages – especially German, French, or Spanish
KNowledge of community interaction and dynamics
BA/BS degree in technical or business fields or equivalent work experience
Responsibilities
Working with the Communications team to identify and implement content and audience research strategies
Measuring the effectiveness of our communications channels, for both owned and earned media (e.g.: blog, emails, social networks, video, websites, press coverage)
Designing quantitative and qualitative analyses to answer important research questions
Tracking key metrics for our content in each channel (e.g.: views, visitors, engagements)
Collecting qualitative feedback for each channel (e.g.: surveys, discussions, sentiment)
Recommending and performing large-scale, ad hoc data analysis and develop effective statistical models for segmentation, classification, optimization, time series
Analyzing this data and identify key findings about our content and communications
Sharing reports with metrics summaries and insights, to inform decisions about our work
Preparing data visualizations about key findings (infographics, charts and graphs)
